A MORE INTERESTING SUPERLEAGUE 2014-15
Despite the crisis that Greek football has been facing for the past 3 years, this year we are seeing a very interesting and competitive tournament. The main reason for this change in Greek football has been the arrival of new eager teams from lower leagues, which are challenging the established teams thus creating great interest in the Greek super–league. At this moment PAOK remain in first position closely followed by Olympiacos who are only 2 points behind. Kalloni climb to third place after their 0-2 away win against Panionios. Panathinaikos gained to places in the table after their spectacular 1-2 away win against PAOK.
AN AMAZING START TO THE CHAMPION'S LEAGUE
The Champions league for one more year has lived up to the expectations. We have seen wonderful football from top class teams and many goals. Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich are the teams having won all of their matches until now. Liverpool have gotten off to a bad start as they record three losses and only one win remaining second to last in arguably one of the hardest groups of this competition. Olympiacos, the only Greek team in the Champions league have had some good appearances so far, with a win over Atletico Madrid and Juventus, but will have to try harder if they want to get through to the next stage. Manchester city continue their bad tradition in this competition and face being potentially knocked from the group stages. We have seen some top class football so far and hope to see a lot more of it.
Disappointing Performance for Greece in the Euro 2016 Qualifiers
The Greek national football team lost 0-1 to Faroe Islands in Piraeus on Friday 14/11/14. The island nation managed to defeat the 2004 European champions, which leaves Greece at the bottom of its qualifying table, without a single win.
While Greece was regarded as the favorite of this match, the team was under a lot of pressure and this could be seen on the field. The team had a clear offensive strategy, but despite some good opportunities, Greece was unable to score a goal against Faroe Islands in the first half. During the second half Greece became more eager to score a goal and so the game opened up allowing the islanders to put the pressure on the Greek defensive line with some quick counter-attacks. During one of these counter-attacks the Faroe Islands managed to score a goal. The Islanders managed to hold on to their lead until the end which gave them their first victory on an international game. The match left the Greek team in ruins and the Italian coach Claudio Ranieri was fired and replaced by Kostas Tsanas.

Sports: Term 1
The St Catherine’s sports season has truly started off with a bang! Only two weeks after the beginning of the schools first term St. Catherine’s students have participated in inter-school tournaments, weekend leagues and marathons, with lots more to look forward to.
The Boys Varsity squad, captained by Alex Papathanassiou, has started off the domestic league with an impressive four game winning streak and stands alone at the top of the table. The success can be credited to brilliant all around team efforts and top scorers Lewis Watson (6) and Enrico Focardi (4) providing outstanding solutions in attack.
Team squads have participated in countless tournaments already, Boys Varsity placed 2nd at ACS while the Girls placed 3rd at St Lawrence. Additionally, Boys Varsity football and basketball squads participated in the weekend ASIS competitions, yet did not manage to advance to the next stages.
The annual Athens Classic Marathon was held on the 9th of November, with a large number of St Catherine's students, staff and parents participating in the 5km and10km races. Congratulations to Mr Christos Latanis, the schools only representative in the Full Marathon, who completed the 42.2km in 04:30:43 and to Nicholas Bougos, who lived up to his expectations following impressive runs last year and finished the 5km in a stunning 19:57.
