BOOK REVIEWS

Since starting the I.B. I have found it difficult to dedicate time to reading, especially complicated and ‘heavy’ books. So I was quite excited when I bought the novel ‘Hogfather’ by Terry Pratchett, as it seemed to be a light and fun book. I had already read ‘Mort’ by the same author so I was familiar with the Discworld Novels and with a few of the characters.

The novel follows Susan, a governess who is strangely related to Death, as she tries to save the Hogfather. The Hogfather is the Discworld’s version of Santa Claus, who is slowly being annihilated by unknown forces. The book is not as simple as an action story. It delves into the repercussions of the loss of the Hogfather, how one event can affect others and how important any kind of faith is to humans.

The novel ‘Hogfather’ by Terry Pratchett deals with a lot of ‘heavy’ issues like faith and death in a light hearted and simple way, which anyone can enjoy and understand. It was a fulfilling and relaxing read with many elements of action and an ironic wittiness to it.
